In 1986, Congress approved a law authorizing the establishment of a memorial to honor the American Armored Forces. "The memorial shall commemorate the exceptional professionalism of the members of the American Armored Force and their efforts to maintain peace worldwide."
On November 11, 1991, the United States Armored Forces Monument was dedicated on Memorial Drive adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. The photograph to the left shows the cover of the book that was made to commemorate this event. Armor magazine commented in its November-December 1991 issue:"The monument is a simple, elegant design, beautifully carved by the artisans of the North Barre Granite Company of Vermont, and is a fitting, permanent tribute to the armored warriors from 1918 to 1991." One section of the commemorative book describes the work done by North Barre Granite on the momument. |
